The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has recently announced the return of Caribbean Week, which was last celebrated before the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event will be held in New York City from June 16 to June 21, 2024, under the theme “Connecting the Globe, Celebrating Diversity.”
The Secretary-General and CEO of the CTO, Dona Regis-Prosper, stated that the event would offer an immersive examination of the vibrant culture, innovative technology, and influential figures shaping the future of Caribbean tourism.
The week-long festivities will coincide with Caribbean-American Heritage Month and will kick off with a church service, followed by exciting events such as the Caribbean Media Marketplace and the Caribbean Media Awards, alongside a celebration of cricket.
Apart from these highlights, Caribbean Week will encompass key business proceedings, including meetings of the Board of Directors and the Council of Ministers and Commissioners of Tourism.
The event will also showcase the impactful work of the CTO Foundation and the recently inaugurated Jean Holder Scholarship, while hosting a special session on artificial intelligence.
The program will focus heavily on women’s empowerment, featuring a leadership breakfast and awards ceremony, complemented by a Juneteenth commemoration honoring the contributions and resilience of both the African American community and the Caribbean Diaspora.
CTO Chairman Kenneth Bryan stated that, “Caribbean Week in New York isn’t just an event; it’s a landmark engagement to celebrate the Caribbean’s vibrant, diverse, and resilient spirit.”
The CTO will also be celebrating its 35th anniversary on the occasion, and Bryan added that, “As we celebrate our 35th anniversary, we’re especially excited to highlight the innovative strides we’re making in digital marketing, AI, and women’s empowerment.”
Overall, Caribbean Week will be an incredible opportunity to showcase the Caribbean, not only as a premier tourist destination but also as a region of forward-thinkers and cultural ambassadors.
