The Fiennes Institute, is currently facing a security crisis that has left the mostly female nurses feeling fearful and concerned for their safety.

According to reports, an unauthorized man was encountered on one of the wards of the poorly secured compound. The man is said to be a recently released sex-offender who is allegedly mentally unstable and HIV-positive.

Reports indicate that on Thursday night, April 4, at around 8:30 pm, several staff members and a resident reportedly caught sight of the suspicious character on a ward.

Despite being well-dressed, the man was wearing a black hoodie that raised suspicion. When confronted and asked what he was doing there, the intruder allegedly responded with profanities and rushed off.

The alarm was immediately raised on the other ward, and security was called. The man was later chased off the compound, but the incident left the staff shaken and concerned about their safety and that of the residents.

The master and matron of the facility were informed of the incident, and a complaint was also made to the police, who reportedly confirmed the man’s identity and advised the staff to be careful.

However, the staff are now asking how careful they can be when the premises are not properly secured.

One employee has detailed the many unsafe areas on the compound, which, for security reasons, are not being disclosed.

Among their concerns is that the security officers assigned to the Fiennes Institute are not reliable.

Some of them call in sick and then take up assignments at other locations, the staff allege.

Additionally, the staff alleges that these officers have told them that their responsibility is to secure the buildings and not the residents, the nurses, or their vehicles.

Given their frightening experience on Thursday night, the staff is now calling for the gates and locks to be reinforced or replaced and for the lighting situation to be improved for the safety of all.
