At the opening of the new Emergency Room expansion at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph declared that he would take a stand against poor service that is frequently meted out to patients and other users of the country’s main healthcare facility.
Sir Molwyn emphasized that such substandard service to patients would no longer be acceptable.
Over the past several months, the minister has been visiting the hospital daily and has witnessed firsthand the poor service that many individuals have experienced.
Although most people speak positively about their experiences at the institution, a minority have reported negative experiences.
Sir Molwyn urged the hospital’s staff to take note of the experiences of those in the minority and to work towards improving the quality of service for all.
The minister emphasized that everyone associated with the institution should feel a sense of responsibility to ensure that it delivers a higher quality of service to the public.
He pointed to the expansion’s location as one of the hospital’s main entrances and stated that improvements should start there.
Sir Molwyn reminded every employee that there is ‘zero tolerance’ for disrespect and invited all the department heads to attend the function to hear from him directly.
The minister stressed that he had been listening to the people accessing services at the hospital and that it was time for the institution to elevate its services to the level of excellence that the people deserve.
