Caribbean Premier League CPL action will return to Antigua and Barbuda in August as the fixtures for this year’s edition were published earlier today.
In the opening match of the regional cricket competition, the newly formed (Antigua and Barbuda Falcons) will take on neighbors, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots on August 29th at its home ground, the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium at 7 pm.
The country was buzzing back in December 203 as the news first broke that the twin-island nation would be returning to the competition.
The last time Antigua and Barbuda competed was in 2014 when the Hawkbills team was in action.
A competition was then launched to come up with a name and logo and in February of this year, that official information was announced.
Antigua and Barbuda Falcons is the new name that was conceptualized by Ishara Samuel, the winner of the name and logo contest recently held by the Franchise.
With the games now released many residents will wait to see the makeup of the team.
Back in February, CEO of Antigua and Barbuda Falcons Jeff Miller explained that the team would be composed of players already contracted by the Worldwide Sports Management Group (WSMG) which were affiliated with the Jamaica Tallawahs franchise — which means the players will be transferred to the Antigua and Barbuda Franchise.
Antiguans Hayden Walsh Jr and Kelvin Pitman played with the Jamaica Tallawahs last season.
For the first time since 2019, the event will visit six host countries with matches set to take place in Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, St Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad & Tobago.
There will be 34 matches in total with each of the six teams playing 10 group matches.
The Falcons after facing the Patriots will battle the defending champions, the Guyana Amazon Warriors on August 30th and the Barbados Royals on September 1st at home at 7 pm and 10 am respectively.
Two days later, on September 3rd, they will face the St Lucia Kings and then, the Trinbago Knightriders on September 5th. At home at 7 pm.
They will then start their away campaign in St. Kitts versus the home team on September 8th at 10 am.
In the night cap, on September 11th they will face the Barbados Royals.
On September 15th, they will battle St. Lucia at 7 pm and then, four days later journey down south to Trinidad.
In their final regular season encounter they will play the Amazon Warriors on September 21st.
The knockout stages and finals will take place in Guyana.
