Antigua and Barbuda is preparing to open a consulate in the Bangladesh later this year.

The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Chet Greene during a media engagement on Sunday after meeting with Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at the state guesthouse Padma.

This move is aimed at increasing cooperation between these two countries in tourism and investment, and is expected to generate much excitement in Bangladesh.

The highlight of this news is the invitation extended to cricket legend Sir Vivian Richards to participate in the opening ceremony of the consulate in Dhaka.

Sir Vivian Richards is still very popular in the Indian sub-continent, and his presence is expected to add more value to the event.

It is a great opportunity for Bangladesh to welcome such a prominent figure from the world of cricket.

Foreign Minister Greene has stated that the consulate will be opened for the convenience of Bangladeshis who want to visit or invest in Antigua and Barbuda, as well as for Antigua and Barbuda nationals who want to visit or invest in Bangladesh.

Furthermore, the government of Antigua and Barbuda has decided to increase its involvement in Asia, and they see Bangladesh as the perfect starting point for this initiative.

One of the main areas of cooperation between these two countries is tourism.

To promote this, Antigua and Barbuda has proposed to provide scholarships to Bangladeshis who wish to study tourism at the University of West Indies.

Also, they have proposed a visa-free arrangement between the two countries, which would mean that they will provide each other with on-arrival visa facilities.

This move is expected to further strengthen the relationship between these two countries.
