Ambassador Nyhus met with Prime Minister Gaston Browne
US Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Roger Nyhus, along with a team from the Embassy, held a series of bilateral discussions with high-ranking officials from the Antigua and Barbuda government.
The talks revolved around exploring opportunities for cooperation between the two nations.
On Tuesday, Ambassador Nyhus met with Prime Minister Gaston Browne, and while the specifics of their discussion have yet to be disclosed, it is believed that the conversation touched on several areas of mutual interest.
Later in the day, the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Governor General Sir Rodney Williams.
The following day, the US delegation met with Antiguan Foreign Minister E.P. Chet Greene, who had just returned from trips to Bangladesh, Malta, and the UK.
During the meeting, the Minister expressed gratitude to the US government for its assistance in organizing the Fourth Conference of Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) scheduled to take place in St. John’s from May 27-30.
FM Greene thanked the US for its efforts to ensure the safety and security of conference attendees, especially given the high number of heads of state and government representatives expected to attend.
This included a Protective Operations and Tactical Medical training course held in March for local law enforcement and security personnel at the Sir Wright George Police Academy at Longford’s.
The course provided attendees with practical training on protective security and Diplomatic Security Services operations.
Ambassador Nyhus expressed his pleasure at being able to offer assistance to Antigua and Barbuda in such a critical area, security, and to support the success of the SIDS4 conference.
Meanwhile, FM Greene attended a social event in London on Tuesday night at Lord’s Cricket Ground, which marked the start of a marketing campaign in the UK to encourage cricket enthusiasts to attend the ICC Cricket T20 World Cup matches taking place in June at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
The event also served to honor Antigua and Barbuda’s Four Knights: Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Andy Roberts, Sir Richie Richardson, and Sir Curtly Ambrose.
