The recent arrival of two jet aircraft for LIAT 2020 has created a greater sense of urgency to staff the airline as quickly as possible and put systems in place to enable full operations.
According to Hafsah Absulsalam, a representative for Air Peace Caribbean, the first order of business is to acquire the Air Operators Certificate, which is currently being processed with the Eastern Caribbean Aviation Authority (ECCAA).
So far, two training flights have been conducted with the ART aircraft acquired through the Caribbean Development Bank, and demonstration flights are expected to take place over the coming week.
Absulsalam, a highly experienced Nigerian with over twenty years in the aviation industry, describes herself as the ‘Project Lead’ for getting the airline off the ground.
They are prioritizing staffing and other considerations as efforts to get the airline started to move to a higher gear.
LIAT 2020 hopes to launch the airline within weeks, and the team will launch a marketing campaign to inform people about its services.
The islands where they take their demonstration flights, St. Kitts and St. Lucia, will be the first to be added to their schedule, as they are getting their operational readiness in place to ensure they can begin operations.
According to Absulsalam, tickets are likely to go on sale shortly as the airline scales up to full operations.
Therefore, the acquisition of the Air Operators Certificate and the successful completion of demonstration flights are crucial steps for LIAT 2020 in launching their airline and beginning their operations.
