A former soldier, aged 20, has been slapped with a $27,000 fine for possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition originally belonging to a police officer.

On May 11, at approximately 5:30 am, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the residence of the accused, Ajahni Murray.

During the search, officers witnessed Murray discarding a firearm through a bathroom window, where it landed near a galvanized fence. The officers retrieved a Glock 17 9mm Pistol along with a magazine containing 7 matching rounds of ammunition.

In court on Tuesday, Murray admitted guilt to the charges of unlawfully possessing both the firearm and the ammunition. He claimed to have found the weapon at Hawksbill Beach.

However, Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason doubted the veracity of Murray’s account.

Consequently, Murray was fined $20,000 for the firearm and $7,000 for the ammunition. He has been given 30 days to pay the fines or face a three-month prison sentence.
