A 21-year-old man from Nelson Street has faced legal consequences for his actions involving a firearm and ammunition.
Nickquan Valarie was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a 9mm firearm, 12 rounds of matching ammunition, and a spent shell on May 24.
He was also charged with larceny of the said firearm and ammunition.
The accused stole the firearm from a licensed firearm holder, while they were working on a farm.
Following a complaint to the police, a search at Valarie’s home led to the recovery of the stolen weapon.
Valarie pleaded guilty to all charges in the St. John’s Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He was reprimanded and discharged for the larceny and the spent shell charges but faced fines of $20,000 for the gun and $10,000 for the ammunition.
