Cricketing legends Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Richie Richardson, Sir Andy Roberts, and Sir Curtly Ambrose concluded their series of appearances across the Greater Toronto Area, which began with a flag-raising ceremony at Dallington Public School in North York.

The Four Knights engaged in a whirlwind of activities, from media interviews to youth cricket coaching sessions, all while promoting Antigua and Barbuda’s cricket culture and the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

During their visit, orchestrated by the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA) and its local partners as part of the Cricket and Culture Tour that began in the UK last month, the Knights were delighted to share their cricketing expertise with Canadian youth cricket teams.

They proudly hoisted the flag of Antigua and Barbuda alongside the Dallington, Woodbine, and Don Valley school teams on May 9, 2024, at Dallington Public School in North York.

This marked the beginning of a series of appearances across the Greater Toronto Area from May 8 to May 12.

“In Antigua and Barbuda, cricket is a huge part of our culture, and we have produced numerous great international players. We are thrilled to see more and more Canadians embracing the game,” remarked Sir Curtly Ambrose.

The four cricket superstars also promoted the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda, which will host eight of the matches.

“There is no better time to visit Antigua and Barbuda,” said Tameka Wharton, ABTA Director of Tourism, Canada. “With cricket matches all summer, romance month in June, and Antigua Carnival in early August, there’s something for everyone. Canadians can easily reach Antigua and Barbuda with direct flights on Air Canada, and WestJet will add a mid-week Wednesday flight in June to complement its standard Sunday flight.”

On May 10, the Knights participated in the ICC T20 Trophy Tour and headlined “A Night with the Knights” at the Galaxy Grand Convention Centre in Brampton. The event, inclusive of food and entertainment, featured performances by Sir Richie Richardson and Sir Curtly Ambrose as part of Antigua and Barbuda’s famed Spirited Band, captivating the audience with an eclectic setlist.

Partnering with the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, the Consulate General of Antigua and Barbuda hosted a brunch on May 11, at Toronto’s storied Albany Club in honour of the Cricket Legends’ visit.

The Knights also had the opportunity to meet and offer tips to the Canadian Men’s National Team, who will participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup this year.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will take place in the Caribbean and the United States next month. This marks Canada’s first time competing in the tournament, with Antigua and Barbuda set to host eight matches at its Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

“Canada’s qualification for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is a monumental achievement for the country and bodes well for the future of cricket in Canada,” remarked Sir Vivian Richards.

The four legends are now heading home.
