Women to be uplifted

The Cabinet has taken steps to fulfill the government’s commitment to offering job opportunities and career advancement to young, hardworking women.

The Cabinet has appointed several women to key diplomatic positions, in keeping with its commitment to offering job opportunities for women.

Among the appointments is Amaya Athill, who has been named as Antigua and Barbuda’s Consul General in Canada, while Rulita Camacho-Thomas has been appointed as Ambassador for Environmental Affairs

In addition to these diplomatic appointments, the Cabinet also addressed the issue of unemployment among young single mothers.

The Cabinet recognized that the high cost of daycare services often prevents these mothers from pursuing employment opportunities that match their skills.

As a result, the Cabinet proposed the establishment of government-owned and operated crèches to significantly reduce childcare costs and enable young mothers to enter the workforce.

This subsidized service will be targeted at densely populated areas with lower incomes.

Furthermore, the Cabinet announced plans to increase the minimum occupational pensions paid to former government employees to $1,000.00 per month, with tiered increases for higher-earning pensioners.

These measures demonstrate the government’s ongoing efforts to provide support to the most vulnerable members of society.
