In a stride towards empowerment, women in Antigua and Barbuda are seizing opportunities to amplify their voices in a world that often overwhelms them with noise.
The Directorate of Gender Affairs (DoGA), under the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation, recently hosted a transformative event, the “Fearless and Fluent: A Public Speaking and Media Training Workshop,” at the Villa Polyclinic.
This one-day workshop, facilitated by esteemed media and communications expert Angelica O’Donoghue, equipped participants with essential tools to enhance their communication skills. Covering crucial topics such as active listening, message development, press engagement, crisis communication, and public speaking under pressure, the workshop aimed to bolster the confidence of its attendees.
The workshop attracted diverse women from various sectors, each eager to improve their media engagement and public speaking capabilities.
*Sponsored by the Community First Co-Operative Credit Union, the event was part of DoGA’s Emerging Female Leaders (EFL) Programme, an initiative dedicated to strengthening the leadership capacity of women across the nation. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises, receiving personalized feedback to enhance their skills and culminating in awarding certificates of completion.
As these women sharpen their communication abilities, they are not just preparing to speak but empowering themselves and their communities.
The commitment to fostering female leadership in Antigua and Barbuda continues to grow, ensuring that women are heard and respected in all spheres of society.
As this movement develops, the message is clear: women in Antigua and Barbuda are ready to be fearless and fluent in their pursuit of empowerment and equality.
If you are to be perfectly correct, some of these PRO’s and marketting heads of many so called important companies cannot even speak without saying AMMMMMMMMMMMMM….They really need some training in speaking with the media and the public. Good effort gender affairs
Even Gaston Browne says ‘ammmm” when he’s speaking. I’m very much sure that this is just something that happens when you’re not reading something that is written. This happens to the highest of the highest.
Women in speaking is a good thing. I hope this gives man woman a boost. most specially how to use their words correctly. Also to make them not be afraid of cameras. women are the camera freaks and yet they are scared of the camera
I am waiting to see the same amount of initiatives for men! When will we see a speaking initiative for the men cuz we certainly seeing the women get the push.
If there was such an initiative it would be interesting to see how many men would in fact attend
