Newly built center where the SIDS conference will be held
The Fourth Conference of Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) will begin in Antigua and Barbuda in just over a week.
The Cabinet has requested a ‘state of readiness report’ by next Wednesday to be presented in person.
This report will cover all key aspects of the conference, and the Cabinet plans to conduct a site visit to ensure everything is in place.
The conference is expected to host close to four thousand delegates, including senior governmental officials and representatives from the United Nations.
Antigua and Barbuda is eager to ensure the success of this major international event.
The newly constructed conference hall at the American University of Antigua near Jabberwock will serve as the venue.
The university’s Vice President for Administration Vernon Solomon has assured that the interior of the conference center will be ready in time. Construction work has impacted the university’s regular operations, but efforts are being made to ensure that everything is completed on schedule.
Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s Office Lionel Hurst also reported that based on bookings, there are close to four thousand delegates likely to attend the May 27-30 conference, including several senior governmental officials such as presidents and prime ministers as well as representatives from the organizing body, the United Nations.
