On Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a heartfelt retirement celebration for Permanent Secretary Anthony Liverpool.
The gathering was attended by the Ministry’s staff, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and his family and friends.
Foreign Affairs Minister E.P Chet Greene praised Ambassador Liverpool for his invaluable support in navigating complex international relations and shaping Antigua and Barbuda’s stance on various global issues since he joined the Ministry in 2018.
Ambassador Liverpool played a pivotal role in mentoring Minister Greene, who initially had little knowledge of foreign affairs.
During the event at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in St. John’s, Ambassador Lionel Max Hurst read Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s letter expressing gratitude for Ambassador Liverpool’s dedicated service to the nation.
The Prime Minister also expressed his desire to seek Ambassador Liverpool’s counsel on future matters concerning international affairs.
Ambassador Zhang Yanling and her staff warmly acknowledged Ambassador Liverpool’s professional and courteous conduct in their interactions at the Embassy, highlighting the positive impact of his diplomatic efforts.
Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Venezuelan Ambassador Carmen Velasquez, also shared her admiration for Ambassador Liverpool, commending his professionalism.
Non-Resident Ambassador Dorbrene O’Marde, who has a long-standing friendship and professional association with Ambassador Liverpool, reflected on their shared experiences in theatre and civil society organizations across Antigua and Barbuda and the Caribbean.
Currently serving as the Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Reparation Commission, Ambassador O’Marde mentioned Ambassador Liverpool’s role as the Deputy Chairman of the commission.
Although Ambassador Liverpool is retiring from his position as Permanent Secretary, he will continue serving as the Special Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in recognition of his vast experience and expertise in foreign service.
