The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services says up to an inch of rainfall has been recorded in some places in the last 12 hours, and another inch or more is likely in the next 12 hours.

It has issued a flash flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat and St Kitts and Nevis until 2pm today.

This means moderate to major flooding is possible in the watch area. It says residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas should be prepared to move to higher ground if flooding rains develop, or a flash flood warning is issued.

The rains are from a tropical wave, and the Met Office is urging residents to stay tuned to local radio or television for watch updates and possible warnings. (Antigua Broadcasting Station)
