Dear Editor
I have recently come across the budget proposed by the Antigua and Barbuda Pan Association for this year’s Panorama competition.
I have some concerns about the allocation of funds, particularly regarding the expenditure of over $30,000 to recruit 12 overseas specialist players, including covering their airfares, accommodation, and stipends.
In the current financial climate, where resources are limited, I believe that the Pan Association’s request for $400,000 seems excessive.
It seems that the Festivals Commission made a genuine effort to support the Pan Association by offering $330,000 in addition to providing numerous tickets for them to sell.
From my point of view, this offer essentially met the Pan Association’s original request of $400,000.
I think the Pan Association should have seriously considered this reasonable offer, especially if they genuinely care about the Carnival and the well-being of Antigua and Barbuda.
By rejecting the offer, the Pan Association may have underestimated the government’s commitment to supporting the festival. It’s important to remember that while Panorama is a significant part of the carnival, the overall festival will go on without it.
I felt compelled to express these concerns because I believe that open communication and collaboration can lead to a better allocation of resources for the benefit of all involved.
