The government of Antigua and Barbuda has launched efforts to provide assistance to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

This includes sending tarpaulins and providing US$100,000 worth of water. Both St. Vincent and Grenada were severely affected by Hurricane Beryl, a category 4 storm that caused extensive damage to homes and displaced thousands of people.”

Grenada Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell reported widespread destruction and devastation in Carriacou and Petite Martinique caused by Hurricane Beryl, which flattened Carriacou in just half an hour.

As of Monday afternoon, there was no information available on injuries or deaths. Additionally, a “spaghetti” model tracking Hurricane Beryl’s paths indicates the possibility of the destructive Category 4 storm moving towards the southeastern US.

The most recent powerful hurricane to strike the southeastern Caribbean was Hurricane Ivan, which devastated the region 20 years ago, resulting in the loss of many lives in Grenada.

NBC Radio in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has reported widespread destruction, including roofs being ripped off from churches and schools, as the communication infrastructure in the southeastern Caribbean begins to fail.
