
The government of Jamaica has issued a Hurricane Warning for the island. Meanwhile, the Tropical Storm Warning for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Martinique, and St. Lucia has been discontinued.
Currently, a Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica, and a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the south coast of the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
The center of Hurricane Beryl was last located near latitude 13.4 North, longitude 64.0 West, moving west-northwest at 21 mph.
Beryl is expected to move across the southeastern and central Caribbean Sea tonight through Tuesday. It is forecast to pass near Jamaica on Wednesday.
Beryl has rapidly strengthened, with maximum sustained winds near 155 mph. It is currently a strong category 4 hurricane and is expected to remain an extremely dangerous major hurricane over the next few days.
Hurricane conditions are expected in Jamaica on Wednesday afternoon, and tropical storm conditions are expected along the south coast of Hispaniola by late Tuesday.
Storm surge, heavy rainfall, and life-threatening surf and rip current conditions are also expected in the affected areas.
Residents in the Cayman Islands and the remainder of the northwestern Caribbean are advised to closely monitor the progress of the hurricane, as additional watches or warnings may be issued.
