Government Allocates EC$150 Million to Boost Economic Growth and Improve Infrastructure

The government intends to pump EC$150 million to drive further growth in the country’s economy.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne disclosed over the weekend that half of that amount will be spent on improving the infrastructure, particularly community roads.

Speaking on his radio programme on Saturday, Browne noted that the effort will be led by the Public Works Department along with private contractors who are desirous of partnering with the government.

“The problem is public works can’t quite do it themselves. What we’re doing now is scaling public works. We just bought $21 million worth of equipment for public works to help them increase the work that they do. But at the same time, we have to rely on private contractors to do some of this work, Browne said”.

The work will commence with all the consistency and the country and Browe stretching the need for private sector involvement.

“Those of you contractors and so on who need sidewalk jobs, to do sidewalks, to build roads. Randy, I know you have a few people in the area. Put them together and come and see me next week. Yes, you can bring some of them. We’ll put them to work right away. Dead serious. I’m spending another 150 million dollars in infrastructure work within the next 6 months to address the issue of these dilapidated roads throughout the country,” Browne said.
