The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force Coast Guard has clarified that reports of a missing Vincentian vessel being found in Antigua are false.
A flier circulating includes details about the vessel – MV Guidance II – which was last seen in Canouan Island Harbour, St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The 150ft-long white boat has been missing since July 1 when Hurricane Beryl struck St Vincent.
An online post from a purported Vincentian national suggests that the vessel was found in Antigua, but there is uncertainty surrounding this claim. The poster was seeking confirmation.
Vaughn Simon of the Defence Force reportdely said to Observer Media that searches have confirmed the vessel is not in Antigua, and there have been no local sightings of the boat.
However, it may have been spotted near St Lucia. Vincentian police have launched investigations into the vessel’s disappearance, as it is believed to have a crew of five led by Captain Maxwell Burke.
The boat’s communication and GPS systems are likely damaged, and St Vincent police are appealing for any information that could lead to the safe recovery of the vessel and its crew. Contact the SVG Coast Guard at (784) 457-4578 with any information.
