The traffic department has stepped up its vigilance across the island in an effort to improve road safety.

On Friday, July 12, the traffic department conducted several separate traffic checks and issued 122 tickets for various traffic violations, including driving while using a mobile phone, driving without seatbelt, and parking in restricted areas.

The police also impounded 20 vehicles for not being licensed, while more than a dozen drivers were asked to remove excessively dark tints from their vehicles.

A 19-year-old Golden Grove man was also arrested and charged for careless Driving, driving without a valid driver’s license, driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle, failing to remain on the scene of a traffic collision, and taking without consent of the owner.

The police continue to appeal to drivers to drive with due care and attention and observe all traffic signs. The police are further asking motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and their license and insurance are up-to-date.
