Further delays to the opening of the Boys Training School

Health Minister Molwyn Joseph

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved the purchase of close to $35,000 for the Boys Training School.

The facility has been under repairs for some time, but its reopening has been delayed due to a theft at the facility.

During the weekly Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph told his colleagues the repair work is still not up to standard citing many challenges.

According to Cabinet Notes, the Social Transformation Minister cites the facility is still unfit to receive boys.

Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst said on Thursday that Minister Joseph visited the facility and came back with a list of items which he thinks must be purchased and supplied to the school for it to functions in the way he intends it do.

Hurst said the facility will remain closed until such time.

“We will abide by his findings and he has said we must purchase some additional equipment, we much change some things and so on, proper landscaping. All these things have got to be done in order to meet the standards,” he added
