The School Uniform Grant Programme has issued over 11,000 vouchers since it started on 3rd July, 2024.
Supervisor Tanesha McKenzie-James mentioned that this number is expected to increase significantly with about five weeks left before the voucher distribution ends.
There’s expected to be a steady stream of visitors at the Perry Bay location of the SUGP after the carnival.
The School Uniform Grant Programme, now in its 19th year, is one of the largest social programmes sustained by the government.
It provides each eligible student with a complete set of regular uniform in time for the new school year in September. Supervisor McKenzie-James mentioned that, for the most part, the programme is functioning satisfactorily.
However, some parents are presenting expired identification cards, causing delays in the process. She advised parents to ensure they have an extra form of identification as some are using expired ones.
Additionally, parents who have applied for school transfers should ensure the process is completed and approval is granted before accessing the programme.
They have been advised to await the transfer letter before coming down to the School Uniform Grant Programme. Parents who have already accessed the SUGP have praised the employees’ excellent customer service.
Many have shared their experiences on social media and encouraged the SUGP’s management to maintain the high standard of care and attention given to everyone receiving uniform vouchers.
The 2024 installment of the School Uniform Grant Programme will end on 31st August, 2024. Last year, over 21,000 vouchers were distributed.
