Trinidadian artiste and entourage shot in St Maarten

29 July 2024 - 11:19

A performer who was visiting St Maarten is in critical condition at a hospital after being shot along with members of his entourage.

The artist had just finished performing at a concert in the Maho area and was leaving in a black minivan when they were targeted by multiple gunshots.

The St Maarten Police Force reported that the artiste is in critical condition, while a woman and three men are also injured but in stable condition.

The police have not disclosed the artist’s name, but it’s been mentioned in local media that the injured performer was a Trinidadian.

The police are looking into the involvement of off duty police and immigration officers in the security detail of the injured artiste.

Recently, there has been an increase in gun crimes in the 34 square kilometre territory.

Just earlier this month, Sabine Arrindell, wife of Oualichi Movement for Change leader Olivier Arrindell, was fatally shot during an attack. Four suspects are in custody in connection with the incident.
