In a peculiar legal case, Kerry Oliver faces multiple charges stemming from a shooting incident.
The case has taken an unexpected turn with the sudden death of the alleged victim, Jeff Richards, while in custody on separate charges.
Oliver appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel yesterday, charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Richards on June 2 in Pigotts, using a firearm to commit an offence, and illegal possession of both a .45 calibre pistol and ammunition.
The court ordered Oliver to be remanded until his next appearance on October 23.
The case has been complicated by the revelation that Richards, 40, had been imprisoned on a wounding charge after the June 2 incident.
It remains unclear whether Richards’ incarceration was related to the incident involving Oliver or a separate event.
Adding to the complexity, Richards died unexpectedly on July 15 while in custody.
The circumstances surrounding his death and its potential connection to the June 2 shooting are yet to be determined.
As the legal proceedings continue, authorities face the challenge of prosecuting Oliver while also investigating the circumstances of Richards’ death and any potential links between the two cases.
