According to the University’s Statutes and Ordinances, “the Chancellor shall preside at meetings of the Council [the highest governing body of the regional university] and any Convocation and shall have such powers and perform such duties as may be conferred upon the holder of the office of Chancellor by The UWI Charter or any Statute, Ordinance or Regulation.”

Chancellor Miller, a distinguished graduate of The UWI, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

He is regarded as a true Caribbean luminary with over 30 years of leadership in the banking, insurance, and financial services sectors, including a successful tenure as the Group President and CEO of Sagicor Financial Company until his retirement in March 2023.

In a statement to the University community, Chancellor Miller asserted, “I am eager to engage our contributing Governments together with the leadership of the University to hear from them how they would wish to deepen our working relationship. Their support remains essential for the continuity of The UWI’s role as a partner in the development agenda of the region.”
