Two remain hospitalized after Last Lap Tuesday Shootings

10 August 2024 - 10:48

Two victims of the August 6 shooting at Shanty Town near East Bus Station remain hospitalized at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. One is in critical condition.

Malachi Martin, 18, from Liberta, is on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit. Recent reports suggest his condition is worsening.

Wayne Knowles, 29, of Gambles, has been moved from the ICU to the surgical ward.

The incident claimed the life of Kergus Martin, 43, Malachi’s father, also from Liberta. A 17-year-old was also injured but has since been discharged after treatment.

Knowles suffered an abdominal gunshot wound, while Martin sustained multiple injuries to his upper chest, abdomen, back, and groin.

According to police, an unidentified armed man in dark clothing and a mask fired at a group under a tent around 11 pm, as nearby Carnival celebrations were concluding.

Authorities continue to seek information from the public to aid their investigation, urging anyone with relevant details to contact their local police station.
