Alfa Nero

By Aabigale McIntosh

The Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal has ruled in favor of Russian citizen Yulia Guryeva Motlokhov in the case involving the Alfa Nero superyacht.

The court has ordered the government to disclose documents related to the decision to seize the superyacht and retain the proceeds. The government has been given two weeks to comply.

Motlokhov, the daughter of a Russian oligarch whom the United States identified as the owner of the Alfa Nero, has been asserting an ownership interest in the vessel through a trust company.

The government recently sold the yacht for 40 million US dollars, using the proceeds to service debt.

When contacted, the government’s lead attorney, Senior Counsel Anthony Astaphan, stated to the media that he will consult with the Attorney General and other members of the legal team before providing a detailed response.

However, he briefly indicated that he has no serious concern over today’s ruling.

    • Joke town Antigua.

Faithful national, your a real jackass, this government can’t even solve basic crimes and police this crappy little island however they want to seize other people’s property after a bigger nation wasn’t even interested in the headache. You must be smoking something. We have more important issues than a super yacht to worry about. It’s called pick and choose your battles and this battle is rather pointless.

The German Courts have already ruled the misappropriation of a similar vessel by German prosecutors illegal. PMGB has exposed himself to a potential liability exceeding U.S.$100 MILLION! He could be ordered to repurchase the vessel and return it to its rightful owners. I don’t believe the long suffering taxpayers of Antigua will accept any responsibility for this massive blunder.

The Dominican lawyer does not need to be concerned. He is getting paid and he and his descendants will not have to find back the lady’s yacht or pay the original cost. Considering that we only got one third of the cost for it, all you labourites, and me unfortunately, and your children will have to find the other two thirds. That is, 80 million US dollars.
