The government’s legal team will return to court in September to handle the latest trial in one of the legal cases surrounding the Alfa Nero Super Yacht.
The government’s lead Attorney Senior Counsel Anthony Astaphan told state media this particular case relates to a claim brought by the Flying Dutchman Overseas Limited.
The group is seeking to prevent the government from completing the sale of the vessel.
“We have some introductory applications for disclosure both about the Flying Dutchman and the Russian Oligarch’s daughter Yulia. The Judge has reserved judgment and we expect to hear from him fairly soon because his ruling is going to set the basis for the trial which has been set down by the Judge,” he said.
Yulia Gurieva-Motlokhov is the daughter of Andrey Guryev, a sanctioned Russian billionaire.
She has been embroiled in legal battles concerning the ownership of a $68 million superyacht, the Alfa Nero, which was acquired by the government of Antigua and Barbuda.
Motlokhov has filed several appeals asserting that she is the true owner of the vessel. She claims to be the “sole adult discretionary beneficiary” of the trusts that own both the Alfa Nero and the artwork on board.
Despite the yacht’s seizure and sale, she continues to assert her ownership rights. Her involvement in this high-profile legal battle has drawn attention due to her association with her father, who was sanctioned by the US Treasury following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
She is being represented by noted Attorney Dr David Dorsette.
