Bar Association Unfit For Its Purpose Says Browne

You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

PM Gaston Browne

“The Bar Association has shown itself to be unfit for purpose. It needs to get its own house in order and kick out incompetent, dishonest and negligent lawyers”

Those were the words of the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Hon. Gaston Browne found on his social media page, who launched scything attack on the Antigua and Barbuda Bar Association earlier in the week.

This stance has been taken by the PM after the recent uptick in crimes from repeat criminals and lawyers arguing their cases.

He even went further with comment below questioning their professionalism, ethics and conscience.

” If I was an attorney, professional ethics could never override my conscience to force me to represent repeat criminal offenders who represent a threat to public safety and national security.

They would have to take their business elsewhere.”

More details to follow in a later post.

3/4 of them have no ethics much more professional ethics.

They depend on criminals for work. So they are quite fine with this lifestyle….until it hits home, that’s when they will want a change.

    Deal with them PM!

What kind of statement is this? I guess you’re just not well enough to make a statement of this magnitude against lawyers. The day you have problems with justice they are the ones who will save your ass thanks to such pillars of our democracy like bail and independent judges. This is not politics, this is populism of the worst kind!

I’ve said it before, this man blames EVERYONE and EVERTHING else for failings of HIS GOVERNMENT, for HIS MISSTEPS, and HIS MISTAKES.

WHEN PM, will you accept responsibility for your failures. I’m looking faaaar into the past, I don’t see it, so I won’t hold my breathe for the future.

Everyone is required to have a legal defense in courts. I know I would not represent such if I was lawyer.
