Former DPP Returns to Antigua; Criminal Charges Still Pending

Anthony Armstrong, the former Director of Public Prosecution, has returned to Antigua and Barbuda. He is facing criminal charges for professional misconduct in Jamaica.

His attorney, Hugh Wildman, tells Antigua.news that all charges against Armstrong will soon be dropped.

Despite being on bail, Armstrong has had his passport returned to him and is now free to travel to any destination and work if he wishes, his attorney said

The charges against Armstrong stem from a guilty verdict of professional misconduct handed down by Jamaica’s General Legal Council (GLC) on January 28 last year.

The court found Armstrong guilty of selling and transferring three properties that belonged to a client without their consent.

The GLC reprimanded him for signing as a witness while knowing that his client, Michael Adams, was not present but in prison in the United States.

Armstrong was fined J$250,000 and had to pay costs of J$30,000 to the council.

Wildman has indicated that he will soon file a no-case submission for his client, as the prosecution has repeatedly demonstrated their lack of preparedness for the case.

Once the no-case submission is filed, Wildman believes that the matter will be thrown out of court.

Armstrong held the role of Director of Public Prosecution from the early 2000s until December 2022 when he was forced to retire after the GLC found him guilty of professional misconduct for selling three properties belonging to a client without their consent.

  3. Why is this criminal entering into our country? Is it so slack our Immigration system is? I know if I was working at Immigration, he would not enter in Antigua. I will put him back on the next flight to Jamaica. I hope the government of Antigua and Barbuda had revoked his AB Passport. I am tired of these criminals elements kept coming into my country. Did he owned one of the criminals gang we have in Antigua? I hope he is not coming back here to work as the DDP or within our government system.

  4. He comes back for his money that is being cumulated here for him by this Administration. I hope that they don’t give him back his position, owing to the fact he’s has done many favours and held many secrets for them, such as the Rubbishing of the Linguist Report, in the IHI Debacle.
This man should never be given any appointment in the Government Service ever again.
