APUA: “Your next utility bills will be lower than normal”

5 September 2024 - 13:55

The recent change in the billing cycle of the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) from twenty-eight days to forty days has caused widespread dissatisfaction among residents.

Many disgruntled customers took to social media to express their concerns about the sudden increase in their utility bills.

In response to the public outcry, the Cabinet summoned key officials from APUA, including the General Manager, Electricity Manager, Financial Comptroller, and Chief Accountant, to address the issue and pacify the aggrieved customers.

Information Minister Melford Nicholas announced that the APUA team has committed to increasing communication with the public through press releases and other channels to reassure customers that the billing cycle for the next period will be reduced to twenty days, resulting in lower electricity bills.

Furthermore, APUA managers emphasized their plans to gradually implement smart meters, which will enable them to monitor daily consumption for all 40,000 customers remotely without the need to physically enter properties.

      • Apua don’t care about nobody. They glad to bill for plenty even though you are not home and yet if you can’t pay on time they cut you off only to add reconnection fee ontop. Why can’t Apua give people options pay as you go metres and stop talking about just smart metres. Dominicans Vincentions and others countries have been using pay as you go metres. Why can’t Antigua have as well. The PM should Love People Enough to see this comes a reality. Give people choices.
