Legal action has been initiated by the Barbuda Council against the government regarding the ongoing land adjudication process on the sister isle.
Barbuda MP Trevor Walker led a team from the Council in a meeting with the Cabinet on Wednesday to address several issues, including the establishment of a joint consultative committee for the two islands and concerns about crime and road infrastructure.
MP Walker highlighted that one of the topics discussed during the meeting was the land adjudication, which is a legal process to determine land ownership and boundaries, led by Deputy Governor General Sir Clare Roberts.
The process, originally scheduled for May 2024, aims to establish an accurate record of land use and ownership on the island.
MP Walker also disclosed that the Council was ready to pursue legal action against PLH developers regarding the restricted access to Palmetto Point.
According to Walker, PLH has obstructed the traditional access road to Palmetto Point, which has been used by residents for many years.
In an interview with NewsCo, Walker said the Barbuda Council completely opposes the fact that PLH has closed off access to Palmetto Point by preventing individuals from using the road that has been relied upon for years.
In response to these concerns, the Cabinet, including Prime Minister Gaston Browne, has committed to addressing the situation.
However, the Barbuda Council emphasized that they were not simply waiting for a resolution.
“We, the Barbuda Council, will take action on this matter if it is not resolved, so that Barbudans can regain access to Palmetto Point,” stated Walker.
He also mentioned that they have already sought legal advice to explore their options.
Yet another exercise in futility! The monies you are now receiving due largely, if not solely, from PLH remittances ought not to be wasted on your expensive lawyer pals. Trevor you and you band of paddy wagon followers are as amusing as you are redundant. Enough already!
Faithful national I don’t always support your messages but I have to agree with this one.
Trevor I admonish you not to become a washedup politican like Harold Lovell. Join forces with the government and do something good for Barbuda.
