UK to Implement Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) Requirement for Visitors

Travelers planning to visit the United Kingdom will soon be required to obtain Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before their trip.

Starting in January 2025, an ETA will be mandatory for travel to the UK. This change aligns with the UK Government’s efforts to digitize its border and immigration processes.

According to a recent announcement, as of November 27, 2024, eligible Non-Europeans can apply for an ETA, which will be necessary for travel from January 8, 2025.

ETAs are electronically linked to a traveler’s passport and ensure more thorough security checks before their journey to the UK.

This measure aims to prevent misuse of the immigration system.

The cost of an ETA is 10 British Pounds, and it allows for multiple trips to the UK for stays of up to six months within a two-year period or until the expiration of the passport, whichever comes first.
