Captain, the Ship Continues to Sink
On September 9, I used this platform to voice my concerns about the state of leadership within the United Progressive Party (UPP). Since then, I had hoped that someone would recognize the serious decline the party is experiencing. Unfortunately, it appears the situation has only worsened, with a more deliberate effort to push out anyone seen as opposing the leadership, particularly the Political Leader and the Chairman.
Once again, I feel compelled to share some undeniable facts:
1. Sean Bird is set to leave the party before facing expulsion. He has been labeled an “ABLP flip-flopper.”
2. Three of the four senior members I previously mentioned are now gone, having resigned from the party.
3. The Chairman has begun moves to replace Alex Browne as both Senator and candidate.
4. The Chairman has reportedly called Alex Browne “lazy” and claimed he “cannot win any seat.”
5. A senior legal member of the party has referred to the current state of affairs as a “purge.”
6. At least three senior UPP members have sought meetings with Prime Minister Gaston Browne.
7. Sean Bird, Algernon Watts, Richard Lewis, and Alex Browne are expected to be replaced as candidates in the next general election.
8. Alex Browne may soon be replaced in the Senate by Jonathan Whenner while Sean Nicholas could be replaced by Pearl Quin .
9. At least two sitting members of Parliament are no longer on speaking terms with the Chairman.
If the UPP’s general membership still cannot see that the party is being led astray by the current leadership duo of Pringle and Giselle, then the situation is far worse than what is presently visible. It took 2 hours and 40 minutes for the Titanic to sink, the UPP seems destined to do it even faster.
