Former Chairman of Barbuda Council encourages Barbudans to embrace change

Barbudans are being encouraged to embrace upcoming developments on the island, starting with the opening of its first international airport later this year. Former Barbudan MP and Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party member Arthur Nibbs made this appeal during an interview on Pointe FM on Saturday.

Quoting scripture, Nibbs emphasized the importance of seizing the opportunity while it exists. “The Bible speaks about working while it’s day because the night comes when no one can work. Now that we have a government truly committed to working with the Barbudan people, we must take advantage of this opportunity,” Nibbs said.

He urged Barbudans to embrace change, noting that the island has long been underdeveloped and forgotten. “We used to say we’re bearing God’s back, but with the leadership of Gaston Browne, Alphonse Brown, and the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), that has changed,” Nibbs added.

Key developments include the opening of the new international airport on October 3 and several hotel projects scheduled to launch at different intervals. Nibbs highlighted the significant benefits the airport will bring to Barbuda, including an influx of tourists, more jobs, and improved livelihoods.

“The new airport means more tourists, more jobs, and a better quality of life for Barbuda. The old airport was close to Codrington, but the new location is farther out, which will also create new opportunities for taxi drivers,” he concluded.
