LETTER: A Mother’s Concern for Honor and Dignity

You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

Dear Editor

As a mother, I find it deeply unsettling to witness our Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, poised to sit down with Jtruth, a figure notorious for his relentless attacks on his family. This is not just a political decision; it is a personal affront to the dignity and honor of his wife.

In a world where respect for one’s family should be paramount, Mr. Browne’s willingness to engage with someone who has shown nothing but disdain for his loved ones raises serious questions about his values.

Jtruth has crossed lines that should never be crossed. He has made disgusting allegations about the Prime Minister’s wife, accusing her of affairs and degrading her appearance in the most humiliating ways.

Such comments are not merely gossip; they are a direct assault on a woman’s dignity and honor. As a mother, I cannot fathom how any husband could stand by and allow such vitriol to go unchallenged. Your duty as a husband, Prime Minister, is to protect your wife and family, to shield them from the ugliness that others throw their way.

By considering an interview with Jtruth, you send a troubling message to your children. They will inevitably come across the vile things said about their mother, and they will wonder why their father chose to engage with someone who has disrespected their family in such appalling ways.

Will they understand that political expediency takes precedence over their mother’s honor? How can you expect them to respect you as a leader if you cannot even protect your own family from slander?

I urge you to think deeply about the implications of this decision. Will you allow political games to overshadow the values of respect and love that should define a family? You have a responsibility to not only lead but to embody the principles of integrity and protection that every family deserves.

So, what will your excuse be, Mr. Prime Minister? Will you drown us in a sea of political jargon, dancing around the truth of the matter? Or will you take a stand for your wife and family, acknowledging that some things are too precious to be sacrificed at the altar of political gain?

As mothers, we instill in our children the importance of standing up for what is right, of protecting those we love from harm. It is time for you to show the same strength and resolve. Choose to honor your wife and family above all else.

Remember, true leadership is about making the right choices, even when they are difficult. Stand firm, protect your family’s dignity, and lead by example.

Tamara Johnson

Politics require forgiveness or he who enters is in the wrong profession. Do you appreciate how many unkind untruths were hurled st V.C.Bird’’s wife? How about the women who have entered into politics? Such unkind insults are hurled their way that many recoil and withdraw. Gaston Browne knows these things. What apologies are forthcoming from J-Truth? Or, what assertions will the Prime Minister make? The writer is naive and is easily offended. Like Dr. Mansoor, you must have the carapace of a crocodile in this business.

It is about politics. Gaston realised that a large population of young people followed JTruth, so what better way to remain in government as the Prime Minister than to have an audience with JTruth, the Entertainer? This is a good political move for Gaston and his ABLP party. Gaston has said inflammatory things about JTruth, likewise the Entertainer himself. The both has cussed each other on social media.

Tamara Johnson, an interview with J’Truth hosting the Prime Minister as his guest on his progràm is a clear demonstration of great leadership and great magnanimity by PM Browne. Leaders lead and then there are followers.

So JTruth has parted company with your clansmen and so you now try to use this to vilify the P.M, for deciding to sit and have dialog with Jtruth, not on your behalf but on behalf of the PM’swife and children!!! How low and desperate can you sink in your childish and amusing attempts to discredit the PM! How very noble of you. When Jtruth was at the height of his fame with his unique style of filthy and obnoxious expressions, a comrade and mouthpiece of your Clan, it was good and fun – healthy politics. But now that jtruth is politically estranged from those goons who previously had made use of his style of campaigning, you cloak yourself in a cloak of righteousness to condemn the PM for stooping to have audience with the likes of Jtruth. Sir/Ma’am whoever you are, please just cover you nakedness and that ugly body it exposes. Perhaps the PM’s wife and chidren might send you a “thank you” or a(n) MYFB note for daring to try to score points at their expense. I’m sure that the PM’s accommodation of Jtruth had far more noble and constructive objectives than your own self-serving, hypocritical friendship and association with, and use of Jtruth could ever have.

My Letter is not about political alliances or estranged relationships; it’s about the fundamental values of dignity, respect, and protection of family. You claim I’m vilifying the Prime Minister, but the core issue is much deeper than that. It’s about the willingness to engage with someone who has repeatedly disrespected and humiliated his wife.

JTruth’s previous associations are irrelevant to this conversation. What matters is that his attacks on the Prime Minister’s family cross a line that should never be excused, no matter the political backdrop. A husband’s duty, first and foremost, is to stand up for his family, especially when public attacks are made on his wife’s honor. This is not about political convenience; it’s about setting an example for one’s children and community by standing firm against personal attacks.

Your attempt to deflect from the heart of the matter by accusing me of hypocrisy does not change the fact that the Prime Minister’s wife has been insulted in the most degrading way. I find it troubling that you would dismiss such slander as “healthy politics” when it involves someone’s family and dignity. Are we so blinded by political games that we forget the importance of basic human respect?

The Prime Minister is free to make his political decisions, but he should also recognize the personal cost of engaging with someone who has shown nothing but contempt for his loved ones. Protecting one’s family from such attacks is a noble duty—far more noble than the political posturing you seem to be defending.

All I can say is that democracy is alive and well in Antigua and Barbuda. JTRUTH is crazy but people love him. Yes I heard the things he said about PM and Maria and the whole carnal. It also shows that he us mature enough to allow an audience with Gaston. It would be an incredible show and I believe the world is watching and waiting to see what happens. Furthermore gaston is showing that he holds no malice. Or maybe he does. But he is realizing that those who oppose him are just as important as those who support him.

It is getting hot in here. So take off all your clothes…Faithful National, you’re mistaken. What I dont and will NEVER understand is why it is such a bad thing to oppose the great and mighty Gaston Alphonso Browne. Gaston doesn’t even care if and when people criticize him. What would you try to protect someone who doesn’t need your protection? Criticizing a decision of the prime minister isn’t hating him. It is saying to him hey, you err. You mean to tell me I have to sing the praises of someone even when they are doing wrong? That is dictatorship if you ask me.

    7th Sence(sic),
Let’s move away from the pure superficial. I derive no special pleasure or rewards in/for “defending the PM.” The PM, from what I have observed, seems perfectly capable of defending himself. Haven’t you noticed? The PM, despite Jtruth’s extremely poor, obnoxious communication skills, probably recognizes the possibility that Jtruth, as a legitimate citizen of Antigua and Barbuda, has a voice which should be heard. It is interesting to recall that prior to his parting of the ways with certain groups, there were no public outcries concerning Jtruth’s outrageous, expletive-laced public pronouncements. The PM has already demonstrated his willingness to hold audience with our young thugs many of whom have already committed heinous crimes. So what if the PM decides get off his lofty perch which he currently occupies by virtue of his position to have audience with the likes of Jtruth? The man clearly has the heart of a lion, the back of “wan cracadile” according to one UPP ex-Minister. Please, Mr/ Ms 7th Sence, make this make.sense.
