UK YouTube sensation Yung Filly charged with rape

Rapper Yung Filly has been arrested on rape charges in Australia (JOE)

British rapper and You-Tuber Yung Filly, has been charged with rape whilst on tour in Australia.

The 29-year-old was arrested in Brisbane – where he was due to perform – and was extradited to Perth where the offence is alleged to have taken place on 28 September.

Perth Magistrates Court heard that he is accused of sexually assaulting a women in her twenties in his hotel room, following his show in the city.

Representing the internet star his barrister, Seamus Rafferty SC, was able to successfully secure bail for his client, albeit with strict conditions attached.

Real name Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos – who won a MOBO Award for best media personality in 2021 – is possibly best known for his work with the YouTube collective Beta Squad.

 

Hotel liaison

The artist’s tour of Australia began in the city of Perth, then headed to Melbourne, Sydney and then the Gold Coast, before moving on to Brisbane.

It is alleged he brought an unnamed woman back to his hotel room after he had performed at the nightclub Bar1, a venue in Hillarys, a northern coastal suburb of the Western Australia state capital.

 

Multiple charges

Police issued a brief statement confirming his arrest, but saying the investigation was ongoing and Sex Assault Squad detectives were urging anyone with information relating to the matter, or any similar incidents, to get in touch.

The full charges include four counts of sexual penetration without consent, three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of impeding a person’s normal breathing or circulation by applying pressure on or to their neck.

Photos were also presented to the magistrate of images of the woman’s injuries, of which the prosecutor said: “No ordinary person can consent in those circumstances.”

 

Two months in Perth

The case was adjourned and he was granted conditional bail, which requires him to report to the police on a daily basis and post a personal $100,000 (£51,438.05) cash surety.

The YouTuber must also remain in Perth until 19 December, when he will appear in court again. Additionally, he must not contact his alleged victim, or post anything relating to the case to his 3.2 million social media followers.

 

Millions of followers

The performer was born in Cali, Colombia, but moved to the UK with his family as a child, growing up in south-east London, where he first took an interest in the local grime scene.

His comedy skits on YouTube got him noticed with 1.8m subscribers, before he found a huge audience with the advent of TikTok, which has cemented him as one the most watched influencers and content creators in Britain.

Alongside his multi-platform video content, he has had a music career as a rapper and singer, as Australians were enjoying, until his tour came to an abrupt end.
