The battery case against Member of Parliament Asot Michael has been postponed until December 10.
Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel was set to deliver her decision in relation to a no case submission today but the matter was adjourned due to medical reasons.
Michael faces battery charges stemming from an alleged incident involving a female police officer. The incident reportedly occurred during the early hours of August 5, 2023, at a summer event called RISE.
During the trial in July, the female officer, who was the first to testify in the All Saints Magistrates Court, alleged that Michael assaulted her while she was on duty. In her testimony, the constable recounted noticing her colleague step back during a conversation. Upon turning around, she saw the defendant shirtless and appearing intoxicated.
The officer claimed that Michael grabbed her face, and when she removed his hand, he grasped her uniform shirt. After she ordered him to release her, he allegedly staggered backward, tearing the top part of her shirt and exposing her cleavage.
The officer also described how her attempt to report the incident to an inspector was ignored, leaving her feeling embarrassed and disrespected.
Additional witnesses corroborated the complainant’s account of the events.
Following the prosecution’s presentation of their case, the defence filed a no-case submission.
A regular offender would’ve already been charged and probably thrown behind the red gate
Is it because he’s an important person. Is her story real or is it a Gaston Browne lead story for what he couldn’t gain
Gaston is going make sure the case is thrown out of court. Right now Gassy wants the St Peters constituency seat, and only Asot can bring that seat home for the A&B Labor Party.
