The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) has voiced its approval for the recent honor bestowed on Sir Curtly Ambrose, the towering figure of West Indies fast bowling.

He added another accolade to his illustrious career on October 12, 2024 when the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus conferred upon him an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree, recognizing his substantial impact on Caribbean sports.

WIPA President and CEO Wavell Hinds praised Ambrose’s achievements, describing him as “one of the pillars of West Indies cricket” and “a master at his craft.”

Ambrose’s cricketing prowess is well-documented, with an impressive tally of 405 Test wickets and 225 One Day International wickets over his decade-long career. Since retiring from active play, he has continued to contribute to the sport as both a coach and commentator.

This latest recognition from UWI underscores Ambrose’s enduring legacy in West Indies cricket, both on and off the field.

As Hinds noted, the honor is “certainly deserving,” reflecting the high esteem in which Ambrose is held throughout the cricketing world.
