Antigua and Barbuda to celebrate United Nations Day

23 October 2024 - 07:05

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda will join the United Nations in celebrating UN Day on October 24.

This year’s theme is ‘Decent Work and Economic Growth’ (SDG 8) and ‘Partnerships for the Goals’ (SDG 17).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will lead the events to honor the UN’s 79th anniversary and Antigua and Barbuda’s 43rd anniversary of UN membership, which started on November 25, 1981.

They are working with the UN Resident Coordinator Office and UN agencies in Antigua and Barbuda.

A Flag Raising ceremony will take place on UN Day, Thursday, October 24, at 8:45 a.m. on the grounds of the Prime Minister’s Office. This event symbolizes hope and commitment to working together.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, E.P. Chet Greene, and UN Resident Coordinator, Simon Springett, will share video messages during the ceremony, which will include a variety of participants.

Throughout UN week, several public events will raise awareness and promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include a Community Cleanup Exercise on Friday, October 25, starting at 6:30 a.m.
