Confession Letter 1 : Pregnant for high profile figure; I had no choice but to abort our baby

Dear Editor,

After reading the insightful pieces by Keiron Murdoch and Bishop Browne, I felt compelled to share my own experience.

It’s a common misconception that women choose to have abortions solely out of desire; for many of us, the reality is far more complex. As one article poignantly stated, we often find ourselves caught in difficult situations.

I am someone who has gone through the experience of an abortion, and I carry a deep sense of regret for what transpired, but I felt I had no other option. I couldn’t bear the thought of my mistake leading to the unraveling of an entire family.

About three years ago, I attended a high-profile event in the U.S. with several colleagues, including some government officials.

After the formalities, we let loose and enjoyed ourselves. Perhaps I overindulged, but the truth is that alcohol isn’t the sole culprit. I woke up in the bedroom of my happily married boss, which was incredibly awkward, especially since we both have families.

We agreed that what happened there would remain private. Yet, the shame still lingers. Shortly after, I discovered I was pregnant. It was clear that my husband couldn’t be the father.

I confided in my boss, who made it clear that keeping the pregnancy wasn’t an option. I didn’t need to be told; I understood the implications.

I went to the doctor and decided to terminate the pregnancy. The thought of a scandal was unbearable, and I knew the media would sensationalize it.

I recognize that my mistakes began with drinking too much on a work trip. Yes, I chose to have an abortion, but what choice did I really have? I couldn’t jeopardize my family, nor would I want to harm his.

This is my truth.

I Speak Truth, I totally agree and the last part made me chuckle. Men should never ever tell a woman what she should do with her body. Infact, they would be up in arms if the law dictated vasectomies for every man of child making age reversible only upon marriage.

When men have the physical burden of carrying a child to term or the actual responsibility of being the sure parent (no DNA test required to ensure support) for the 21 years of a child’s life then and only then should a man’s 2 cents matter in what a woman does with her body.
Regarding the above case, mistake was made. Hopefully you both learnt from it. Don’t make it a habit and move on. God forgives. And God is who you answer to
I have been teaching for 28 years and there are many children who were so poorly parented and are suffering so much perhaps they should have never been. And be honest, all of us know a few adults who should have been aborted.

Obviously the letter writer is s hoe her boss has no ethics just like people of power. Long story short let people do what they do all will have to answer for everything at judgement day.

I understand the bravery. But in all understanding. A woman’s body is a woman’s body. And knowing the disruptions this could cause I’m both family and the media who can say she made a right or wrong choice? But at the end of the day it’s her body.

Just three years ago! Surely this case can still be reported and the perpetrators prosecuted!
Beloved actor served time in jail, the outcome of several allegations against him made by females of similar actions some even as much as ten to fifteen years prior.
The decision to abort and your decision to remain quiet were yours. I know that a serious national debate is about to start on whether or not to legalize abortion. Hope this is not just another drama-staged opportunistic moment to Kickstart a discussion, initiated by the “good” bishop, of course with a hint of political intrigue?! There is a treasure trove of talented story writers at present here in Antigua just waiting to be unearthed.
