Court Maintains $2400 Compensation in Pool Party Assault Case
The Court of Appeal has settled a violent assault case stemming from a 2018 hotel pool party altercation.
Dalianne Richardson, Shanique Dwyer, Larsheka Gray, and Shimmea Welsh who pleaded guilty to a brutal attack have maintained their original compensation order, despite prosecution attempts to increase the financial penalty.
The incident, which occurred at the Royal Cove Hotel during a birthday celebration, represents a shocking descent from a festive gathering into a violent confrontation.
One of the four defendants claimed the complainant’sboyfriend as her own and attacked her with her group of friends.
The victim suffered nine distinct lacerations across her body, including wounds to her scalp, forehead, face, neck, chest, and arms – injuries caused by broken bottles wielded in theassault.
The quartet after pleading to the offense in 2020 were ordered to pay $600 each in compensation to their victim.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) argued that this amount was insufficient given the severity and group nature of the attack.
However, the Court of Appeal saw the matter differently. The judges considered critical factors beyond the immediate incident, noting that all four women had not only paid their compensation but had also successfully completed their probation without further legal incidents.
This consideration ultimately led to upholding the original compensation order.
