Political Leader Pringle Addresses Delay in Announcing UPP Candidates

Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle

Political Leader of the United Progressive Party Jamale Pringle is acknowledging a setback in the United Progressive Party (UPP) timeline for naming its candidates for the next General Election.

A few weeks ago I said that during the month of October, I would name at least 10 candidates to contest on behalf of the Party,” Pringle says.

At the last General Council meeting, held October 13, the Political Leader confirmed the positions of the five sitting MPs – All Saints East and St. Luke; St. Phillip South; St. John’s Rural West; St. George; and St. Mary’s South.

In addition, he reports, five other Branches had completed ratification of their caretakers.

However, he explains, “several elements have to be taken into consideration, including some of a personal nature, and the Party is allowing time for these to be settled before these persons are named.”

Notwithstanding this, Pringle assures that the entire selection process is nearing completion and the Party is preparing for the announcement.

The UPP’s meticulous approach to candidate selection comes against the backdrop of recent defections and amidst supporters’ desire for a greater demonstration of political commitment by applicants.
