The American University of Antigua (AUA) has been confirmed as the host venue for the 55th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), scheduled for June 2025.
This announcement was made during a post-Cabinet press briefing on Thursday, with Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, Lionel Hurst, confirming the choice.
“The AUA does not wish to have their students displaced at any time so there is great co-ordination between the AUA and the government of Antigua and Barbuda.”
This assembly will be Antigua and Barbuda’s second major international conference, following the successful hosting of the SIDS4 conference.
The 2025 assembly will focus on fostering productive discussions and celebrating the shared goals and achievements of OAS member states.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already begun preparations, estimating costs around $7 million, and plans to seek support from international partners. Volunteers and the ministry’s protocol team will play a significant role in the four-day event.
Delegates from all 34 OAS member states are expected, with each delegation anticipated to send around four representatives.
“There are 34 member states and we anticipate that each delegation will send about four persons and the OAs will bring its own personnel and that would normally exceed 70 people,” he said. Additionally, the OAS will bring a support team of over 70 personnel.
