A mother is pursuing legal action after she claimed that her young daughter endured severe punishment at the hands of a male educator.
The incident resulted in visible scars on her daughter’s buttocks, leaving not only physical marks but emotional scars as well.
The mother said her daughter received corporal punishment for talking too much.
Corporal punishment is still on the books in Antigua and Barbuda.
Corporal punishment he is the one that need that,the mother of that child should not allow them to tell her about no stupid law it’s child Abused in a big way. I remember as a child one teacher sent me to the principals office for coming late,knowing why I was sent there I took my books and went home.next day she ask me about it I told her my mother and father never hit me yet ,I was not going to allowed no one to hit me.so I went home if you want my parents to come they will come she just turn her face.No one should put their hands on a child your or not its child Abused there are other ways .

When the article says “corporal punishment is still in the books in Antigua and Barbuda” I wonder what relevance that has? Is the child a criminal defendant that was sentenced to corporal punishment?
The teacher had no justification for beating a child that severely. It is not on the books for children to be beaten as a sentence for the crime of talking too much.
Unless Parents Come TOGETHER in Protest and DEMAND that THIS law or provision be taken off the Books …… Nothing will be Done ……
…….. Possibly bringing a Case of Child Abuse against This Teacher IS the Action needed to force The Education System in ANU/BAR explore OTHER means of Behavior Modification in our Schools.
Probably a National Research Project geared to harnessing the views of Parents and Students on possible (Culturally Relevant) Behavior Modification approaches which can be applied both at home and at school could result in new and innovative approaches that would help Solve the present vexing problem of Physical Abuse in The Schools of The Nation ……. just a Thought…..
