Dominica’s United Workers Party (UWP) has re-elected Dr. Thompson Fontaine as its leader. He secured victory against newcomer Senator Delbert Paris, receiving 125 votes to Paris’s 65 during the party’s Delegates Conference on Sunday.
Paris has been appointed as the deputy leader.
Former Party Leader Lennox Linton will continue as president, while Ronald Charles steps in as the new vice president.
Dr. Fontaine shared with Loop News Caribbean that his primary focus as the re-elected leader is to effectively communicate the party’s message to the public.
He emphasized the importance of reaching out to various communities, stating, “We believe we have a better plan for Dominica’s future, and we need to dedicate time to inform the citizens about it.”
He acknowledged that while the party has previously conveyed its message through radio, this time it will prioritize engaging more people in an organized and strategic way.
“People have expressed that we spend too much time on the radio and should be more present in the communities. We have heard this message clearly,” Dr. Fontaine said.
Other members elected to key positions within the party include Nicholas George as Secretary, Dianne Victor as Assistant Secretary, Kent Joseph as Treasurer, and Ezekiel Bazil as Assistant Treasurer.
Sherlyn Sabroache will serve as the Public Relations Officer, and the party’s trustees will be Edison James, Ernie Jno Finn, and Norris Prevost.
