UPP Leader Jamal Pringle addressing supporters at Labour Day Rally
United Progressive Party (UPP) leader Jamaal Pringle calls on workers to “rise up and demand better”.
Pringle was speaking at the Antigua Barbuda Workers Union rally earlier this morning.
“This morning, Labour Day signals that it’s time for workers to rise. Rise up in Antigua and Barbuda. When the working class is not properly compensated. When our workers are not socially satisfied. When two-parent households are struggling to take care of their children. When workers cannot save or afford or by a piece of land. When pensioners must choose between buying food and buy medicine. When both running water and decent roads are scare commodities. When the fear of crime keeps you in your home night and day and when young people are disappearing, then it is time to rise.
“We have to see it to it that workers struggling under a minimum wage of $9 an hour are able to earn to a living wage. So, we are working with the ABWU to ensure that this happens. We have to secure better and more opportunities,” Pringle stated.
The Opposition leader added that with the record of the UPP and ABWU it is time to fully support these two bodies and march for “political freedom, services and savings”.
He said it is imperative that people demand better as the future of the nation is at risk.
Pringle commended the ABWU for their tireless work in fighting for the rights of the people.
“That is the work of a union who believes in its workers. We must continue to stand and support the ABWU, and I pledge to you we will continue to stand with them and with the workers of Antigua and Barbuda,” Pringle pledged.
Pringle was adamant in his stance that the only viable option for the sustainability of the country is through the UPP and the ABWU.
So they never mistreated workers? Get out of here
Jamal Pringle. We love it on the other side. Thank you. You should swing top.
