By-Election Won’t Halt St. Peter Roadworks

Prime Minister Gaston Browne reassured the residents of St. Peter that ongoing roadworks in the constituency will proceed even after the upcoming by-election scheduled for January 14.

“Road repairs in St. Peter were part of a planned timetable established by the Ministry of Works, and we began our efforts in the latter half of last year. Unfortunately, there are still areas that have gone without proper roads for years—specifically in Gunthorpe’s and Lightfoot—where our focus is concentrated now,” Browne said over the weekend on Pointe FM.

The scale of the work required will not be finished by the time of the by-election, but I assure you that progress will continue afterward,” he added.

The government has been criticized by the opposition for attempting to patch up roads in St Peter, ahead of Tuesday’s by-election.
But Browne said road repairs had been initiated in August of the previous year. However, following the unexpected passing of former representative Asot Michael, the pace of the roadwork has quickened.

He pointed out that the increased urgency of the roadworks serves to illustrate the government’s commitment to addressing one of the community’s major concerns—the dilapidated condition of local roads.
PM Browne highlighted the pressing need for extra equipment, like crushers, due to the high material demand for the ongoing projects.

St George’s constituency needs a bi-election so we can get our roads fixed. I am 59 years old and asthmatic. l live in St George’s all my life with my family from great-great grandparents. The dirt road that runs in-front of our homes needs serious maintenance. Under the UPP administration some work started on part of the road but never get completed which now caused the road to completely deteriorate. I can say that the UPP administration is the only government whoever made an attempt start of road maintenance rehabilitation on that stretch of roadway.
