Development has been underway in the constituency will the establishment of the Paynters project.

That work, Rawdon Turner, who is the Chairman of National Housing, added is continuing and will intensify post-by-election.

The demand for owning a piece of the rock is great in the constituency, according to Turner and so, two smaller housing projects will come on stream in Pares Village and Vernons Estate.

“About 16 homes” would be constructed in Pares and “37 homes in the Vernons area”.

Work has already begun.

“It has already started. Work started prior to the announcement of the by-election. We started the cleaning of the land, and we are looking at putting in the infrastructure where the engineers are accessing the road works,” Turner explained.

Construction of these homes will take around six to eight months.

This is the second time Turner will run on the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party’s ticket, having lost to an independent candidate, the late MP Asot Michael in the last general elections.

George Whener of the United Progressive Party (UPP) is Turner’s opponent this time around, taking over the caretaker role from Parham native Tevaughn ‘Peter Reds’ Harriette.

The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) also does not have a candidate in this by-election.

Fast forward two years later, Turner is confident that this time around he will be successful at the polls.

“I want to bring to the table, not only to the constituents of St. Peters but to Antigua and Barbuda a different form of politics.

“I ask the people of St. Peter to give me one opportunity to represent them and to perform and judge me by my performance and ability to get the job done. It’s not about personalities, it’s about getting the job done, and if you can deliver for the constituents, I believe they will always send you back to be their MP,” Turner said.

He hopes that if given the opportunity, he would love to serve the nation as the Minister of Housing to help continue the work that he has been doing.  

If by chance, he would not be successful Turner mentioned that he “will still advocate for the people of St. Peters”.

“If I was doing it before politics, then, why should I stop?” Turner asked.

By-election takes place tomorrow with polls opening at 6 am.
